Question:

Rubicons: Used TJ or new JK?

I am trying to decide if I want to buy a low-mileage TJ for the upper teens or a new JK in the mid-$20s. I think I like the TJ for the Torsen rear diff (JK is open unless locked) over the auto-disconnecting sway bar of the JK. I hear the inline-6 had more low-end torque, but I hear that the JK has tougher axles. Comments?

  1. The TJ Rubicon will have limited slip when axles are not locked and the JK Rubicon will have open axle unless axles are locked due to the ESP system.I guess it is a matter of personal preference, the I-6 does have more torque then the V-6 but they are both good engines.I have heard of people from work getting 20 or more mpg with the new JK while the TJ will only get around 16.The JK is a better ride but be warned if you get the 2 door getting into the back seat is almost impossible.Myself I would get the TJ,I own a CJ,YJ and TJ and the TJ is the best on and off road vehicle of the three. But if you need more room the 4 door JK can't be beat,as for the JK having tougher axles they both are Dana 44's.

  2. I guess it depends on if you plan on "wheelin" it hard or not. JK are great but the TJ is slightly designed a little more twards the hard core off road. You can equally mod a JK to do the same, but the tins are a little thicker on the TJ.

I believe both dana 44's are pretty equal. TJ = air locker, JK = elect locker. Both are dana 44's.

I6 has more low end snork, but I've heard nothing bad about the 3.8 from anyone who ownes one. Both are great.

I would get a used TJ and spend the extra $ on mods. If I had a TJ Rubicon (which I do) then I would add a JK. IMHO
