Question:

Rubik's Cube - where to buy QUALITY cubes, not Rubik's.com c**p?

I remember the good old vintage 3x3x3 cubes... the mechanics were solid, they were crisp, turned snappy, kinda like today's eastsheen 4x4 and 5x5

But todays 3x3 from rubik's.com are godawful! they are loose, really easy to pop, so you have to be very careful when speedsolving or they self disassemble right away

so which 3x3x3 cubes would you recommend that are quality close to those of eastsheen 4x4x4 and have the center screws?

p.s.

i've recently seen on sale some original vintage Ideal Toys cubes - have you tried them? how do they compare to the S****y Rubiks.com cubes? are they the same or better? do they have the screws in the center? how are the mechanics? how do they turn? plz please elaborate!

thx so much!

  1. Go to:

    1) cube4you.com

They sell DIY cubes with different colors!!

    They also sell PVC stickers!

    2) www.ebay.com

Search for DIY Rubik's cubes. You should find something!

    3) Amazon.com

Just search for DIY Rubik's Cubes like ebay.

    4) cubefans.com

    It's a new website from cube4you.com

These are Do-It-Yourself Kit, which you may make it tight or loose by fixing the screws!! I don't think most of them would "pop"! These are good quality cubes. Do not buy eastsheen if you don't want to!

    Hope this helps!!

  2. official Rubik cubes can be bought at amazon..the one with a sticker on the center white piece

  3. There is 4x4s at Walmart in the toy section

  4. Look for a cube with a Sticker in the centre, those are pretty good. I have a 3x3x3.

Either try to get lucky a wal-mart.

Or if you have a "Barns N' Nobles" around, they sell them there.

Remember to apply Patroleum Jelly (Vaseline) to make it turn smoother.

  5. Aren't the DIY kits like the ones at cube4you pretty much the best bet now?

Oh, and I am sure you have already gone to the speed solving forum, but I wanted to list it in case you had not.
