Rubin Kazan boss pleased with Champions League win
Rubin Kazan manager Kurban Berdyev says he is delighted with his side's 1-0 win over Copenhagen in a UEFA Champions League group stage match at home on Wednesday 24 November.
Captain Christian Noboa dispatched a penalty on the stroke of half-time after Jesper Gronkjaer handled the ball inside the penalty area. Danish champions Copenhagen were unable to restore parity and as a result, the home side took all three points.
The result means that Russian Premier League outfit Rubin have given themselves a chance of reaching the last 16 of the competition. They are now a single point behind Copenhagen, and will have to gain a positive result against Barcelona at the Camp Nou
while hoping Copenhagen do not beat Panathinaikos in the last round of group stage games on 7 December.
Berdyev claims that the victory over Copenhagen was a hard-fought one as the Danes were a well-organised side, but was over the moon to pick up all three points.
He told UEFA's official website: "I'm generally satisfied with our display and commitment. We won deservedly. We played to hold onto what we had at the end. Copenhagen could have taken their chances but now I am happy with the result. I agree that some times
it seemed we were playing against ourselves because Copenhagen are a very organised team.
"We had to put in a lot of effort to close them down. They tortured us with crosses from the right in the second half and after (Vitali) Kaleshin got injured we had some problems on the left wing, too. Copenhagen are a very good side. If we compare the two
games against them, our commitment was better today but in the first match, we were better organised and played better football.”
