Ruby Crown to follow Countess Comet home in Huntingdon’s Weatherbys Printing Mares´ Handicap Hurdle
Without a doubt, there are a lot of ifs and buts in Huntingdon’s Weatherbys Printing Mares´ Handicap Hurdle, which has attracted a small field of six. But the preference is for Countess Comet, who is making plenty of appeal despite a rise. Ruby Crown is likely to capture the second position behind her.
Countess Comet gets a rise back up the handicap as a result of her participation in a Listed event at Wetherby 10 days ago. In search of bigger glory, she stepped into the OLBG.com Mares' Hurdle (Listed Race), but remained unsuccessful.
Her act, however, was full of impressive stuff. In the hands of Tom Messenger, the Chris Bealby-trained chased the leaders well in the beginning. She was in a good position to aim for the podium, but was outpaced approaching three out. She, afterwards, stayed on one pace and as a result, could only get the fifth place behind Une Artiste.
Owned by Payplan Partnership II, the daughter of Medicean has done the trick in this kind of competitions in the past. The Lady Cobham-bred did a wonderful job at the start of 2012, when taking two good victories at Catterick.
A decent effort at the higher level must have given her a lot of confidence, and she is expected to get back to the winning ways. She just needs to stay cautious of Ruby Crown, who is equally dangerous if not better.
Trained by Kim Bailey, the veteran could not do well on her recent seasonal debut, but none should judge her on that. Ahead of taking break, the 10-year-old sealed the runner-up place twice. The daughter of Rakaposhi King has plenty of experience under her belt, and would a tough nut to crack.
The competition will be held over two miles and 110 yards. It is scheduled to begin at 15:10 GMT. Apart from the aforementioned pair, no one is making any significant appeal.
Synthe Davis has shared podium on soft ground, but his best efforts came on good. Belle De Fontenay tailed off last time, but got plenty of places prior to that. Dance For Livvy has a lot to prove for current wellbeing and effectiveness on soft.
