  1. If you haven't noticed, in AFL footy the ruckman tap the ball after they have jumped and hit the gorund.

This is because the 2 players jump into the other player to put them off or knock them down.

In an around the ground bounce, the 2 ruckman wrestle and tap, they don't jump.

Try jumping into the other opponent but make sure you don't use your foot or knee and put your opponent off, then you have the ruck to yourself.

  3. Well, I barley ever play ruck partly because I'm only a middle sized guy, but I have found that a great way to improve your jump height is to make sure that your jump timing is right so that you are at maximum height when you reach the ball (the only way to improve this is to get someone to throw the ball in the air for you and keep practicing your timing.)  And with the vertical jump your vertical jump shows your muscular power as it requires a burst of energy through your leg muscles, therefore the best way to improve your vertical jump is to build up your upper leg muscles by doing everyday activities like cycling or running, etc.  By the way good luck with your rucking and I hope your team is doing better then mine!!!

  4. To help your vertical jump, work on your leg muscles - preferably upper legs. The more strength in your legs you have the more power and the higher the jump.

To improve your rucking skills you need good awareness. Always be aware of where your team mates are and  where their opponents are. That way you have general directions on where to hit the ball. Try tappin it in front of a team mate, but on the side their opponent isn't. Or into a space which is closer to and will give the advantage to your team. Also learn to time your jump. Keep the front position so that way you can alo get free kicks and the first hands.
