Rudi Garcia feels that Lille have been really unlucky in Europe this season and despite playing well in the Champions League, they are still without a point in the competition.
The club from Northern France has endured a miserable Champions League campaign so far and are currently at the bottom of their group. Their Tuesday’s opponents, BATE Borisov, are third in Group F with 6 points on the table and Les Dogues need to win against
Viktor Goncharenko’s side on Tuesday to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League alive.
The Lille coach was talking to reporters at a press conference and when asked about his side’s chances of qualifying for the Europa League, the Frenchman was in confident mood and is remaining optimistic about his side’s chances.
Garcia said that Les Dogues have been unlucky this season and it’s wrong to suggest that they didn’t try hard enough in Europe this season and the Champions League wasn’t club’s main priority. The 48-year-old added that Lille played to win from the very
start and he is really disappointed with the results.
“We played to win from the very first game, but have failed to pick up any points.
The former Saint-Etienne coach said that he is expecting a better performance from his side on Tuesday and added that LOSC need to win this match to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League alive.
"I hope to see a different result tomorrow against BATE Borisov. We are interested in getting into the Europa League, the situation is difficult but we will try to improve it.”
Rudi Garcia said that Lille have been really inconsistent in front of goal this season and they need to do well in that area to get a positive result in the upcoming games.
“We have to score goals and do not need to think about anything else."
LOSC Lille take on BATE Borisov on Tuesday in their next game of the 2012/2013 Champions League campaign.
