The Lille OSC coach says that the manner of his team’s Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena was a very hurting and painful experience
After losing to Bayern Munich in their fourth game of this season’s UEFA Champions League group stages, Ligue 1 outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800 is out of contention of securing a place in the knockout phases of the competition.
Ahead of the game, it was important for Lille to secure a positive result against the Bavarians in order to stand any chance of sealing a place in the next round of the competition. However, the game against Franck Ribery and co turned out to be a lesson
in humiliation for the 2011 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 who must play their remaining two games of the group stages in a bid to salvage some pride.
As things stand, Les Dogues are rock bottom in the table and have not secured a single point which just shows how poor they have been in this tournament this season.
And, after the game that he would quickly want to forget, coach Rudi Garcia has said that before the game, he knew that it was possible for his side to do the unthinkable. However, after a nightmare of a first half, his young side could not perform against
a more experienced team.
“We were hopeful before this match, it was thought that the feat was possible. We wanted to be bold and go out with style, style that Bayern had. It was a nightmarish first period. We had the impression that it was a young team against an experienced team.”
The former AS Saint-Etienne coach then went on to say that he is not proud of the result but insists that his players had faith in their ability.
“It is a defeat that hurts. I am in pain and difficulty with them. I’m not proud of it, but it was not an issue of poor faith.”
The 6-1 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich is the worst margin of defeat conceded by a French team in the Champions League and Rudi Garcia would never have wanted this record on his or his players’ CVs.
