Les Dogues coach is pleased with the way his side played against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 on Sunday, and feels that Lille were unlucky not to get all three points from the game
The match between the two heavyweights at Grand Stade Lille Metropole ended in a 1-1 draw, with Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez scoring a brilliant goal to deny the hosts a much needed win.
LOSC played well throughout the match and coach, Rudi Garcia, feels that his side was unlucky to concede a goal in the end.
While talking to reporters, the former Saint-Etienne player said that Lille did well in the match but luck wasn’t with them. The 48-year-old stated that his side played with great confidence and deserved more than just a point from that game.
“Tonight we saw the difference between a side riding their luck and another struggling to catch a break.”
Praising his side, the coach said that players performed really well and it was a much improved performance from his side.
“The most important thing was the way we played. I'm disappointed for the players, who really stepped up to the plate tonight,” the 48-year-old told reporters.
Rudi Garcia, a former Lille player himself, added that Les Dogues need to continue playing like this if they want to achieve something this season. The season hasn’t started well for the 2010/2011 French champions, and the coach has urged his players to
build on from their strong performance on Sunday.
“We need to continue on this track though, because if we play all our matches like this, we'll win a lot of them.”
LOSC Lille were humbled in the Champions League by BATE Borisov in their opening group game, and Garcia has praised his players for reacting to that and putting in an impressive performance against Lyon.
“After what happened to us on Wednesday in the Champions League, the lads reacted well; they hit back. We caused a lot of problems for Lyon with some good movement, but it wasn't enough.”
Rudi Garcia’ side travel to Stade de la Route de Lorient next Friday, to take on Stade Rennais in their next game of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign.
