The 48-year-old is delighted with Les Dogues’ response after the French club put their Champions League nightmare behind them to register a win against Brest in Ligue 1 at the weekend
The 2010/2011 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 were left humiliated after they were thrashed 6-1 by Bundesliga outfit, Bayern Munich, in the Champions League on Wednesday. However, Lille put their European troubles behind with a 1-0 win over Stade Brestois 29 at Grand
Stade Lille Metropole.
It was Les Dogues’ 5th win of the league and their recent league form has been indeed impressive. Saturday’s win made it three in three Ligue 1 games for LOSC and coach, Rudi Garcia is pleased with his players’ response.
While talking to reporters, the former Le Mans coach stated that following the defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, things weren’t looking good for Lille but players did well to keep their focus and they deserve credit for the 1-0
win over Brest on Saturday.
The coach added that Bayern Munich are one of the best teams in the world and Lille failed against them because of their inexperience at the European level. However, Garcia feels that LOSC did well to get back to winning ways and they showed the world what
they are capable of.
“I am proud of my players. We failed (against Bayern) but we were up against one of the best teams in the world.”
The 48-year-old said that by winning this game, Les Dogues have silenced many critics and it shows that Lille have the ability to do well this season.
“We needed to show that we had the resources to pull through and put that defeat behind us. It could have really left a mark on us but the players showed that they still had confidence in themselves, as well as quality and determination.”
The coach added that he was expecting a good showing from his players after the European nightmare and they repaid his faith.
“I was expecting a reaction, and for the players to show they were better than what they showed on Wednesday."
LOSC Lille will face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 in their next Ligue 1 game.
