The Lille coach is not thinking about the possibility of failure ahead of Les Dogues’ UEFA Champions League play-off second leg against the Danish club
LOSC are 1-0 down against their European opponents, as they prepare for the second leg of UEFA Champions League play-off, this Wednesday.
The Ligue 1 outfit will have the advantage of playing at home against FCK, and Rudi Garcia believes that this could work in their favour.
Newly-built Grand Stade Lille Métropole will host its first ever European match, and the coach is optimistic about his side’s chances against Ariel Jacobs’ side.
While talking to reporters, the boss stressed that his team can turn things around despite being on the back foot.
"To play in our new stadium and in front of a full house will spur us on even more. They are ahead but that could work in our favour.”
The former Dijon coach believes that FCK’s first leg advantage counts for nothing and his side can secure their qualification to the next round of the Champions League.
Talking about Lille’s performance in the first leg, the 48-yer-old admitted that their opponents played with great determination and made life difficult for Les Dogues.
Garcia added that the Danish Superliga team was the better of the two in the first half of the game. However, LOSC played relatively well in the second half and the coach believes that his players have the capability to win the second leg.
"[FCK] showed more determination in the first leg but we reacted well in the second half,” Garcia told reporters.
The former Saint-Etienne tactician admitted that his side was wasteful on certain occasions in front of goal that cost them in the end, and has urged his players to avoid such mistakes this time around in order to win the game.
“We had enough opportunities to score but we lacked composure in front of goal, which is unforgivable in a competition as big as this. We're not even considering the possibility of not qualifying."
Rudi Garcia has asked his players to play to their best on Wednesday and failure is certainly not an option for the coach.
