Rudi Voller happy with Champions League football – Football News
Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has claimed that he would never trade a UEFA Champions League place, not even for a German Cup. The chief is delighted with his team’s performance last season and is looking forward
to a new challenge in the upcoming campaign.
Bayer Leverkusen finished third behind the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the standings table. They secured qualification in the Champions League and will be playing in the continent’s premier club competition
next season.
“I would not trade a place in the Champions League for a cup win. When you reach the Champions League it is like winning a title,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former German national team manager hailed Bayern Munich as the best team in the word at the moment. He insisted that the champions have even gotten stronger this summer with the signings of Mario Gotze and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-c34888 Alcantara
and because of the appointment of Pep Guardiola.
The chief claimed that his side’s main competitors are the likes of Schalke, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879.
“Bayern are special team and have got even stronger. They are the best team in the world at the moment. Bayern and Dortmund were in the Champions League final last season and are stronger than us. Schalke, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg
and Hamburg are our main rivals,” he continued.
Voller also talked about the club’s transfer policy and admitted that the club is in process of signing two more players. He admitted that there have been players brought in for a defensive approach and one or two individuals will
be brought in to support the attack.
“We are still looking to strengthen offensively, whether it be a young player or a seasoned professional. We would like to bring in two more players at least,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen sold their prized asset Andre Schurrle to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 earlier this summer and have signed Son Heung-Min from Hamburg as a direct replacement. The club will be looking to maintain their position in the Bundesliga next
season as Bayern Munich and Dortmund are way too strong.
