Rudiger Gnedt ousts Alistair Casey in an epic Men’s Singles battle at US Open Grand Prix Gold
Austria’s Rudiger Gnedt started his campaign in a positive manner as he put up phenomenal show and ousted Alistair Casey of Scotland in an epic battle in Men’s Singles first round at the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Los Angeles, on Monday, July 2.
Rudiger has been playing competitive badminton for the last couple of years and showed a considerable improvement in all aspects of his game. He put in extra effort while playing against Alistair and won the battle with a tight margin.
In opening set, both men started their run in a positive and composed manner but Rudiger played smart badminton in the front court area and pushed his rival in all corners.
The Austrian was in good control of rallies as he commanded the pace and remained ahead on score board until the end of first half by reaching 11-8.
After the break, Alistair also changed his tactics and pushed his Austrian opponent on back foot by employing impressive jumping smashes.
However, the Scottish player failed to take control of rallies at the ending points as his rival played positive and fast game to win the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
In the following game, it was a different story as Alistair showed his brilliance and outmanoeuvred his rival while remaining positive in the court.
In the meanwhile, Rudiger failed to remain consistent on court as he could not put up strong resistance against the fireworks of his opponent and lost the game with a one-sided score of 10-21.
In the final game, Alistair again played well and took a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the one-minute break, Rudiger played to his maximum potential and ended the lead of his challenger at 13-13.
Both shuttler showed a strong character at this stage and played with impressive precision. They reached at the ending phase when Rudiger defied all odds to grab the game with a dramatic score of 21-19.
Rudiger won this Men’s Singles first round encounter against Alistair with a tight 21-19, 10-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
