Rudolph to play at True South Classic
The field for True South Classic was announced on Friday and 132 players will be taking to the field. This year’s True South Classic will take place on Annandale Golf Club.
There were two surprise inclusions in this year’s tournament. John Marovich announced that the 2003 Masters Winner and holder of eight PGA titles, Mike Weir will also be taking to the field, along with Jonathan Rudolph who has played here twice as an amateur
before.
After graduating from Ole Miss in December, Jonathan has been mostly playing on the NGA Tour. So far on the NGA Tour, he made the cut in 6 out of 10 events and is ranked 52nd in the money leaders list.
A victory here would mean that, not only will he take home $540,000, but he will also be granted two years’ exemption into PGA Tour events.
This time around, Rudolph will be familiar with the golf course as he has played here twice as an amateur.
Being a rookie, Rudolph was not familiar with many of the golf courses he played on this year but he hopes to come up with an improved performance this time around.
"I have been telling my dad, I am finally not going to be a rookie,” said Randolph, "I have been a rookie this whole year, not knowing the courses. But next week I am not going to back down to anybody. These guys are the best, but I would not be out here
doing it if I could not compete with them. I have a lot of confidence".
The Tournament Director was extremely happy after announcing that Mike Weir will be a part of the event this year. Weir has had his share of problems for past few years, he has been struggling with an elbow injury. However, in September he had a surgery
after which things improved for him.
"That is the one I was most excited about," Marovich said. "He is been fighting some injuries, but his agent said he is been striking the ball well and feeling good about his game, so he decided to come here".
