Rudy g*y believes Memphis Grizzlies could’ve won it all had he been fit late last season: NBA Update
Memphis Grizzlies star Rudy g*y has said his side would have had a decent shot at winning the NBA World Championship last season, had he been fit. As it was, the Grizzlies bowed out in the Western Conference Semi-Finals against
the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games.
“I’d like to say we’d win the whole thing. But I’m not sure. We were definitely on a stride.” He said when about Memphis’ chances with a healthy Rudy g*y, as reported in Grantland.
g*y has been out of action for over 7 months with a shoulder injury. It reduced his involvement in the regular season to just 54 games and he also wasn’t able to contribute at all during the playoffs. The Grizzlies still played
the best post season basketball in their franchise history; defeating the number one seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, before narrowly losing out to OKC.
Grizzlies’ performances in the playoffs, even without their injured star, turned a few necks and Memphis were showered with a lot of deserved praise. It was difficult for Rudy to just sit on the sidelines, but he believes the injury
has been a lesson in humility.
“It was tough. But I think I needed it for my career. I’ve never been injured, never been anything. Now I take care of my body better. I’m planning to play every game like my last, because I know what it’s like to get it taken
away from you.”
In his absence, a number of Grizzlies players stepped up to fill the void. Tony Allen was impressive with his suffocating defence while Marc Gasol made some giant strides towards becoming one of the better centres in the game.
However the player who really stole the show was power forward Zach Randolph. Z-Bo really came into his own during the playoffs, and destroyed opposition defences time and again with his powerful and stunning performances.
g*y said during the interview that he had always known Randolph had it in him and it was about time the burly forward got the recognition he deserved.
“Yeah. I know how competitive he is. Really in this league, all you’ve got to do is win and people notice you, and people started to notice.”
The Grizzlies forward is now hoping to get back on an NBA court with his teammates sooner rather than later. After a strong showing in the last post season, the Memphis players have a new found self belief and knowing that g*y
will also be back in the fold next season, they are all set to themselves as a major power in the NBA.
