Rudy g*y drops 32 points to help Memphis Grizzlies defeat Phoenix Suns 104-93 - NBA Recap
On Wednesday night at the FedExForum, Memphis, TN, Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Phoenix Suns 104-93. This was the Grizzlies fourth consecutive win making it 7 wins out of their last eight.
Coming into the game, the Suns were having a good month of April with 5 wins out of 6. However, this loss halted their progress as they desperately try to make their way into playoff contention.
Rudy g*y put up a season high performance with 32 points for Memphis to lead their charge. Mike Conley added 12 points. Zach Randolph led the bench scoring with 17 points and O.J. Mayo contributed 15 points. Dante Cunningham also
came off the bench to score 10 points.
However Marreese Speights, Marc Gasol and Quincy Pondexter struggled from the field by shooting a combined 8 of 18. These three combined together for only 18 points in the game.
Marcin Gortat was the leading scorer for the Suns with 19; Shannon Brown added 18 points and their veteran point guard, Steve Nash, notched up a double-double (27th of the season) with 11 points and 10 assists. Markieff
Morris and Josh Childress, both came off the bench to score 17 and 10 points respectively.
In the opening period both sides looked steady in their play as they went head to head with each other. The scores remained close and were all square at 16-each with 5:45 remaining in the quarter. However the Grizzlies behind g*y`s
quick 5 points and Conley`s 2 went on a 7-0 run to lead at 23-16. The lead was only cut by 1 as Memphis`s 6 point advantage remained for the remainder of the period.
The Suns started the second quarter off on a 10-3 run to take the lead at 36-35 with 8:54 to go in the half. Memphis regained the lead on the very next possession and went on to extend their advantage to 6 by the end of the first
half.
However the Grizzlies were getting dominated in the paint by the visitors who scored 42 points from inside in the first half.
In the third quarter, Memphis led by 9 points for the most part and extended their lead to 11 with 1:34 to go in the period. However Phoenix cut it back down to 8, courtesy of a 3 pointer by Brown on the last possession of the
quarter.
The Suns were just not letting up as they started the fourth quarter on a 9-1 run to tie the game at 81-each with 9:26 to go till the final buzzer. Later on, Childress committed a shooting foul on Conley, who converted both to
take Memphis two points ahead of their opponents.
Phoenix on the other hand were unable to connect on several of their shots and also committed a turnover. With the Suns failing to score, Memphis scored 4 more quick points to get ahead by 6 and were not troubled for the remainder
of the game. Grizzlies went on to extend their advantage and took this one by a margin of 11 points.
