Rudy g*y fashions a 97-92 Memphis Grizzlies win over Washington Wizards – NBA Recap
On Sunday night, the Washington Wizards took on the physical Memphis Grizzlies on their own back yard. They played hard in the first half and after being blown away in the third quarter, fought their way back within striking distance
late.
But then, Rudy g*y drilled one from distance and the spirit broke.
g*y finished the game with 27 points, including five within a space of 30 seconds in the final minutes, hauled down 9 rebounds and made 2 steals to help Memphis end a two game skid. Mike Conley netted 17 points for Memphis, which
also got 15 points and 9 rebounds from centre Marc Gasol while Zach Randolph came off the bench for 13.
John Wall paced the Wizards with 25 points and six assists; shooting guard Jordan Crawford had 22 points and Kevin Seraphin had 12 point-12 rebound double-double.
Randy Whitman, who team has now lost five of the last six fixtures said after the game;
"They are a physical team. They muck it up," the Wizards coach said. "They are very physical out front. There is a lot of bumping, grinding and fouling that makes them that way. We gave ourselves an opportunity, but we just couldn't
make plays down the stretch."
An 8-2 run midway through the first frame saw the Wizards take a 12-7 lead, but it was immediately neutralized by an 8-2 Memphis counter. The game was tight rest of the way as Memphis entered the second quarter with a slender 22-21
advantage.
O.J. Mayo, who had 10 points in the game, combined with Randolph for six consecutive Memphis points, taking the lead to 27-20 inside the first three minutes of the quarter. Roger Mason Jr. responded with a three and after Speights
scored a two on the resulting possession, the Wizards raced away to a 12-4 run to wrench the lead back, 35-33.
Memphis stayed close in the following passage with 9.1 seconds to go; a Dante Cunningham tip shot tied the matter at 45.
Jordan Crawford made a strike from downtown to end the first half at 48-45. A three point play from Wall pushed the lead further, but then the Grizzlies started to take over.
They started with a 13-4 run to take a three point lead, 58-55, and then capped the period with a 16-5 spurt to take control at 74-66.
The Wizards started the fourth with a 14-6 run to tie the game, but then missed their next two shots to allow the Grizzlies six consecutive point, which ultimately went a long way in determining the final result.
The Wizards completely lost the momentum after that and Grizzlies managed a 90-83 lead with a little over than two minutes to go. Wall tried his best to spark a comeback, but he and the Wizards found g*y in the way.
