Rudy g*y remembers not making it to the U.S Olympic team this year – NBA News
Rudy g*y remembers the day US Olympic team Coach Mike Krzyzewski called him to tell him that he did not make the cut for the Olympic team that was going to travel to London. The team went on to win the gold medal, and g*y says that he remembers that phone
call very clearly and it gives him the motivation to go out there and work even harder.
“They can word it however they want. Being left off, being cut, whatever. I feel like that's one of the things I can keep in my mind to make me move on,” said g*y.
As the Memphis Grizzlies look forward to next season, they know how important g*y is for the success of this franchise. He has been with the Grizzlies since he was picked in the 2006 NBA Draft. He was given a max extension in 2010, but underwent shoulder
surgery in March 2011 and missed the playoffs that year as the Grizzlies went on an amazing playoff run, ousting the San Antonio Spurs and pushing the Oklahoma City Thunder to 7 games in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.
g*y returned for the lockout shortened 2011-12 season, and led the team in points. However, he was unable to lead them past the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs. g*y shot 21.1 percent from the three point range in that series, giving
him an area to work on during the offseason.
"I feel like I've gotten older and gotten smarter as a player. Watched a lot of tape to try to figure out what holes I have in my game and try to fix that,” said g*y.
g*y is regarded as one of the best players on the Memphis roster, and along with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, forms the core of this young and energetic team. After good playoff performances in the last two seasons, the Grizzlies are looking to make a deeper
push this time around. And Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins knows that for that to happen, g*y will need to play to the level he is capable of, and contribute on both ends of the floor.
“He has the ability to rebound. He has the ability to defend and defend the best player on the court every night. That's what we need him to do to win. That's what I expect him to do,” said Hollins.
