Rudy g*y scores 21 as Memphis Grizzlies overpower Indiana Pacers 98-92 - NBA Recap
Playing at their home court on Friday night, the Memphis Grizzlies used fourth quarter muscle to down Indiana Pacers 98-92, improving their record to 14-13 in the tightly contested Western Conference.
It was an impressive win for the Grizzlies but wouldn’t have been possible without the help of their reserves.
With four minutes remaining, the game was evenly poised at 86 all and it could have gone either way. It was then, when O.J Mayo and Tony Allen keyed off a 7-1 game deciding spurt that turned the momentum in the Grizzlies favour.
David West and Danny Granger got Pacers back in the game and made it 92-95, however once again it was Mayo, who netted three free throws in the clutch to seal the victory for the Grizzlies.
Mike Conley, praised the effort of Grizzlies bench post game;
"They let me and Marc rest until basically the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter," Conley said.
"They actually extended the lead when they were out there. That's what we need out of them. When you have that kind of output from the bench, that makes it easier on the starters coming in to sustain that lead." He added.
Mayo finished with 13 points on 6 for 7 from the charity stripe, while Allen finished with 6 points - not an impressive tally by any means - but it was the timing of those six points that made it so valuable tonight, not to mention his stifling defence.
Rudy g*y marshalled the Grizzlies with 21 points whereas Marreese Speights pounded 19 on 8 for 13 from the floor and also grabbed 9 boards. Gasol and Conley both accumulated 15 points.
Grizzlies were accurate with their shooting, knocking down 46.6% from the floor and 29-for-37 from the charity stripe.
The Pacers offense by David West with a game high 22 points on 8-for-13 from the floor and 13 boards while Granger scored 19 points including 4 for 5 from the long range. Reserve Dahntay Jones chipped in with 10 points as well.
Darren Collison, who only managed to score 9 points in the game, admitted that Grizzlies had more hunger to win tonight. He added
"The biggest difference was the willingness to win," Pacers guard Darren Collison said. "They had a little bit more will than us. They wanted it more, and that's something we just can't have."
Pacers struggled with their shooting, (38.5%) from the floor and a meagre 6 for 16 from the long range.
