Rudy g*y shines as Memphis Grizzlies defeat New York Knicks – NBA Recap
The Memphis Grizzlies sent out a clear message to the rest of the NBA with a resounding win over the New York Knicks. New York, who are considered to be among the elite of the NBA after acquiring a number of big names over the last year or so, did not have
any answer to the swashbuckling Grizzlies side that humbled them in front of a buoyant crowd.
Rudy g*y was the best man on the court by a distance on the night. He had 26 points, the game high, and also grabbed 5 boards in around 35 minutes of play. O.J. Mayo had 18 points off the bench along with 8 rebounds while Marc Gasol had a double-double with
10 points and 12 rebounds.
No one got going for New York in a game they would like to forget. Star forward Carmelo Anthony had 14 points, so did reserve Bill Walker and rookie Iman Shumpert scored 12.
The Grizzlies were off to a fast start, getting up 8 – 2 before the Knicks hauled them back to level matters at 10 apiece. Memphis though were not to be denied and built up a head of steam again with a 14 – 2 burst that left New York trailing in their wake.
When the first period ended, the home side was firmly in control at 28 – 19.
New York didn’t get going in the second quarter either, although their defence was able to keep the Grizzlies in check this time around. The deficit though only increased as the teams headed into the break at 49 – 38.
Trailing by double digits at the start of the second half, the Knicks were looking for a strong showing coming out of the interval. That though wasn’t part of the script followed by Memphis, who simply ran through the Knicks in the third period. A 9 – 0
blitz by the Grizzlies, which took their lead to over 20 points at 68 – 47, signified their dominance of proceedings. When the quarter ended at 75 – 52, New York had little hope of turning things around in the last segment.
The final period was more of a formality as the game had pretty much been decided already. Memphis took their foot off the gas as the Knicks scored over 30 points to try and add some respectability to the score line. The score was 94 – 83 to Memphis when
the clock finally ran out.
