Rudy g*y sparks impressive Memphis Grizzlies win over Golden State Warriors – NBA Recap
The Memphis Grizzlies put in a polished display to beat Golden State Warriors 110 – 92 here at the ORACLE Arena on Wednesday. The Grizzlies established their dominance early on and never gave the Warriors too much hope for recovery as the game progressed.
Star forward Rudy g*y found form tonight for the Grizzlies and showed what he is capable of with a terrific double-double display. g*y scored a game high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, joint game high. Rudy also had 5 assists.
Spanish centre Marc Gasol was again impressive for the Grizzlies. He had 17 points and 12 rebounds for his double-double. Marreese Speights scored 18 points and had 7 boards; O.J. Mayo scored 16 points while Mike Conley made a mark with 12 assists.
Not a lot went Golden State’s way on the night. Live wire guard Monta Ellis could only manage 16 points. Stephen Curry had 15 while rookie Klay Thompson tallied 16.
A feature of the game was Memphis’ ability to attack in transition; they outscored Golden State 32-to-5 in fast break points, something that even took coach Lionel Hollins by surprise.
"That's incredible when you're playing against the Warriors, because they can get out and run. We didn't really turn the ball over where they had chances to run back at us. Most of the turnovers, we just threw the ball in the stands. So that'll really cut
down on [an opponent's fast-break points]."
Memphis though were simply outstanding right from the word go. They opened the game with a terrific 21 – 4 blitz that put them in control of the first quarter. The Warriors toiled hard throughout the remainder of the period but were only able to cut the
gap down to 33 – 23.
Golden State showed more resilience and character in the second frame, attacking the Grizzlies early and using a 13 – 2 run to go ahead, 36 – 35. Memphis though would not be denied and after some back and forth action, they finished up at halftime, 56 –
51.
The Warriors looked determined to get back and came out firing after the interval. They levelled the score at 58 – 58 with an effort from downtown, Monta Ellis connecting. However Grizzlies used an 11 – 0 burst to go up 69 – 58, and they maintained the advantage
until the end of the third segment, 84 – 73.
Golden State simply couldn’t put together another string of attacks in the final 12 minutes and Memphis picked them apart with little bursts throughout. The outcome was decided much before the final shot that made it 110 – 92.
