Rudy Hartono angry on Indonesia’s loss to Japan in quarter-final at Thomas Cup Finals 2012
Indonesia former great shuttler Rudy Hartono Kurniawan is quite angry over poor performance of Indonesian shutters who lost to Japanese opponents in quarter-final clash at Thomas Cup Finals 2012, which is in progress at Wuhan, China.
The 62-year-old Rudy said that many players in the national team are not in good shape and are not even capable to win title at the major international tournaments.
He fumed on the fact that in the entire history of Thomas Cup Finals, Indonesia for the first time could not even reach into the semi-final which is quite humiliating.
The former World Champion Rudy, who also won the All England Open for eight times, also criticised the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for not producing better shuttlers.
According to him, the shuttlers do not have enough stamina to put up good show and defeat the top shuttlers in the world.
He said, “Not all players in the roster were in good shape, and the opponents could see that gap. Besides, PBSI has paid the shuttlers too much and has given them a huge bonus so they don’t focus while playing.”
Another former great shuttler of Indonesia Susi Susanti, who won gold medal in Barcelona Olympics, also showed her disappointment over the loss of Indonesian team against Japan.
Susanti also stressed that Indonesian shuttlers need to think bigger and better and should work hard accordingly in order to remain among the top players in the arena of badminton.
She said, “Inevitably, our Thomas team failed for the first time against Japan. We used to call it a failure to even nail runner-up, let alone this, beaten in the top-eight stage. Our shuttlers need to seriously make their way of thinking better and be courageous while playing decisive moments.”
The loss of Indonesia’s Thomas Cup and Uber Cup teams clearly reveals the loopholes in the national squad and it is quite disappointing for the former great shuttlers to see the current team losing to their lower ranked teams.
According to the former Indonesian legends, there should be a complete revamp in the national set up which is essential to bring the find the lost glory for the country.
