The AS Saint-Etienne stopper went on to praise his team for their dedication throughout the game against the Paris-based club, and believes that the game didn’t go either way till the very last minute.
Stephane Ruffier had a marvellous game in the Coupe de la Ligue match against Paris Saint-Germain, that involved his breath taking saves during the penalty shoot-out that ensured AS Saint-Etienne’s progress through the next round.
The Coupe de la Ligue game was a highly anticipated one for both teams, as each side seemed keen on progressing to the next round of the tournament at the expense of another. However, fate seemed to favour les Verts, who had also won their previous encounter
between the two sides in the Ligue 1 earlier this month.
The game was a tightly-contested affair with PSG proving to be the more attacking side of the two. Les Rouge-et-Bleu seemed determined to avenge their defeat at the Parc des Princes, but weren’t able to bring down ASSE’s defence.
Stephane Ruffier was widely praised for his performance, and the Frenchman felt delighted at the progress to the next round. The former AS Monaco man said:
“A great side like Paris, who want to return to the Championnat after the defeat. They were solid and held up well. We are happy to seal qualification and now, we want to go further.”
The Frenchman gave an impressive performance, as he managed to save http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-c34888 Silva’s penalty, that eventually turned out to be the difference between the two sides. The result turned out to be in favour of the Saint-Etienne-based club who won 5-3 on penalties.
This wasn’t the first time that Ruffier displayed his heroics infront of the goal. The 26-year-old represents one of the best defences in the Ligue 1 so far, with Saint-Etienne only conceding 10 goals this season.
The former Monaco player recently turned out to be Christophe Galtier’s first-choice keeper, and is doing all he can to maintain the manager’s faith in him. However, Ruffier still seeks to make the same mark internationally, but hasn’t been able to do so.
Although he has been featured in the U-21 http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 squad several times, hasn’t been impressive nor successful in securing a spot in the national team other than just a single appearance.
Les Verts are currently at third place in the Championnat, just one points behind joint league leaders Paris Saint-Germain and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127.
With the next game against AC Ajaccio, the club seeks to continue their impressive form of late, probably with a win in Corsica.
