  1. I would really prefer to measure to get the right size - we have a pony who is 14.2 and he takes a 6ft rug.

Average sizes are just that - average. Few horses actually match up them if you take the risk.

  2. You really should measure him before you spend any money - use a flexible tape measure from the middle of his chest to his hindquarters (approx. in line with his dock).

If you can't do that though ... well, I'd go with the 5'9". My 16hh tb wears a 6' (and he's quite well muscled), so that might be too big on your 15.1hh. Bear in mind though, that some manufacturers' rugs come up slightly smaller or larger than the stated size, so be prepared to try it on him over an old sheet so that you can send it back for a replacement if necessary.

  3. would be easier to measure him first.  from the middle of his chest round to the line of his tail.  both sizes could fit depending on whether he has a long back.  perhaps if rugs are cheap buy both sizes. if too big then it will still fit if your horse was wearing a saddle.  i would think that the 5ft 9ins would be the correct size.  as i use 6ft rugs on 16.2hh.

happy shopping for the lucky horse.

  4. i would go with the 6" it doesnt matter if its slightly too big the 5"9 would probly fit but just i would say hope this helps leah
