Why don't the Americans play Rugby. I think i know the answer, there are equal sides with strong rules to the game, you can't chew "gum" when you play, and you cannot cheat.

  1. They do play rugby but its not that popular, they have featured in the last couple of rugby world cups, but because they don't dominate the sport they don't like it that much - could you imagine the WORLD series (in baseball) without at least ONE American team in it, there would be uproar!

  2. even though Americans play rugby Americans like me are not that interested in it,us Americans like a more organized sport, rugby and soccer are just not that interesting.

  3. There are teams it's pretty much seen as a game for those who can't make the grade as a Footballer, (yeah right!).  Infact there is a photo of George Bush playing rugby in one of his yearbooks (employing a "Novel hand off" to an opponent in the form of a right hook- well the guy can't be all bad then).

You can cheat, forward passes are a favorite, there are also "grey areas" in the rule book. Ireland's Brian O'Driscoll's pass to "himself" in the 2007- 6 nations Wales game, (throwing the ball up and ahead slightly) is one of them. Some reckon it could constitute a "Knock on", personally I reckon it's imaginative play. (And I'm Welsh)

  4. they do- at least in Dallas and NH- my  hubby played in both places and lots of the players were US folks ( but only really tough ones;))

  5. I think Australia would decimate them, even though we're probably only the third best team atm !

  6. The U.S. have a rugby team,  albeit a have decent one

  7. sounds bout right dumb americans not much £££ in the pro game really tho

  8. Americans do play Rugby. It is just not a professional league yet. But almost every college has a team, many cities have their own teams, there is a super league (union rules) here, and there are plans in the works to build a professional union here in the near future. So I don't know where you get your facts from or if you just hate America. Either way you now look like an idiot who has no idea what he is talking about.

    pwned

  9. Why play an amateur game when you can get a ridiculous amount of money by playing basketball, football, baseball, etc. Rugby is a great game but all the talented athletes will always be drawn toward the $$$$$

  10. You need imagination, guts, sportsmanship and brains to play rugby.

  11. it's quite big in Califonia where a lot of the colleges have teams but there's far more money in American football so the only players that the US national team get to pick from are either failed American football players, Australians and Kiwis living in the states or Americans living abroad.

With the size of the country and the size of its people, if the US started playing rugby seriously, it would be bad news for the rest of us. Thankfully, as they always suffer heavy defeats against the likes of Canada and Argentina, they can't build a fan base.

  12. Hey limitless325 there are only US teams in the World Series Baseball as it is played in the states. It is the national competition. Not really a world series as we would call it as no other countries are able to play

  13. Depending what part of the USA you live in there is rugby fro all ages elementary, Middle, and high school.  Most universities have a club team and there are men's and women's teams everywhere.  But it is an amature sport and the players do not get payed to play.

  14. They do play rugby and have qualified for this years rugby world cup.  I think their first match is against England.  Also America are also the raining olympic champions of rugby (although it hasn't featured since about the 1920s or so).  That said their relative lack of enthusiasm is probably due to its similarity to the the far more popular NFL so anyone who'd have the skill to play world class rugby will more than likely head for the NFL which has about a billion times more money and US tv coverage.  As for americans not liking strong rules have you watched an american football game?  pretty complicated.

  15. They do.

The National Team are known as the the Eagles, and below are the other teams in there World Cup group.

    Group A

    England

    Samoa

    South Africa

    Tonga

    United States

They were also Olympic Champions when they beat France at home in 1906 (I think).

Good Luck to the Yanks I say.
