Rugby Football League congratulates Jamie Peacock, Bev Risman for New Year Awards
The Rugby Football League congratulated English captain Jamie Peacock and the dual-code player turned coach, Bev Risman, on receiving the New Year Awards.
Peacock scooped up an MBE award whereas Risman received an OBE award for their exceptional contribution in the world of rugby league.
Peacock was surprised on his selection for the string of contributions he had made to the world of rugby league, while his elaborate playing stint in the sport. He admitted that he was not at all expecting it.
The 34-year-old player dedicated the honour to the sports of rugby league and to all those players who had once shared the playing field with him. He himself acknowledged that he would never have reached the level of success without the support of his playing
field partners at club and the international level.
While expressing his views about it, Peacock said, “I can’t overstate how shocked I was and how honoured I am to receive the award. It is as much a reward for everybody I have played alongside as it is for myself. I am in a team sport and I have had quite
a few successes over the years, but that’s down to the players I have played alongside and the coaches I have had – and most of the people at the clubs I have been involved in, at Bradford, Leeds, England and Great Britain. It is as much a reward for them
and for the game as well. It is really pleasing.”
He continued and shared that it felt great that Rugby League also gained recognition. Otherwise, Leeds veteran added that rugby league was always pushed in the background, without any adequate amount of recognition to its share.
Peacock shares that visiting Buckingham Palace in order to receive the medal is a huge honour in its own accord. He tagged it as an experience of lifetime. He also shared that he is looking forward to receive the honour from Queen on that special day, when
his entire family will be there.
