Rugby Football Union agrees on Twickenham venue - Crusaders v Sharks, Super Rugby update
Twickenham will be hosting the Crusaders’ clash against Sharks in a Super rugby clash for the round six. The match will be played on 27thMarch after reconsidering the date for the clash. Rugby Football Union came to an agreement over the transfer of the
Super 15 clash overseas to the Northern Hemisphere, where the first ever Super Rugby game will be played.
The deal got confirmed after the Crusaders side contacted the Rugby Football Union for London as a venue. The Christchurch outfit side has lost its home ground due to earthquake and will be taking all their matches to different locations. Last month’s earthquake
deteriorated AMI Stadium, the home ground for Crusaders. This means that the AMI Stadium will not will be available for the World Cup this year either.
Initially the proposal was rejected by Rugby Football Union, due to the Harlequins’ fixture with Gloucester. Later on, Crusaders compromised on date and after mutual agreement with Sharks, the match was delayed a day. Rugby Football Union accepted the change
and agreed on holding the Super Rugby match at Twickenham, London on 27th March.
This is the first time that a Super Rugby is played at a venue other than Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, that is SANZAR. This special match will be incorporated by British Red Cross for the support of the earthquake victims. Other than this, 5
pounds per ticket will be charged for the donations and will be sent to Christchurch as relief fund. There have been aid programs running global for the relief of the Christchurch residents, but this is the first time a sport is participating for this noble
cause.
Rugby Football Union released its official statement regarding this new development. The official said, “Its incredible news that we were proficient to find a date that would allow us to horde the fixture as the center of attraction of a weekend of fundraising
for the people of Christchurch. Having some of the Southern Hemisphere's best players on display at Twickenham will be a treat for all English based fans of the Super 15.”
RFU and Crusaders both found it a relief to finally get a location for the important clash. RFU believes it’s a blessing to get Twickenham for this match with a good cause behind it. RFU official said, “We would like to show appreciation to all our stakeholders
for their suppleness and support in making this come about. We now have less than two weeks to get tickets sold so we would advise followers to get online and buy soon.”
Hashim Riach, the Crusaders chief executive declared that Sharks have been really cooperative with the development and have been supportive thoroughly, understanding the current situation of Crusaders’ hometown.
After the earthquake Crusaders have played two matches and won both with a good lead. They thrashed Waratahs by 33-18 and Brumbies with a hammering 52-10 next week on the similar stadium. Crusaders are in a lethal form after the disaster and are attacking
like an injured lion in wake of night. Crusaders’ team consists of world’s top class players like Dan Carte, Sonny Bill Williams and top of them All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw.
Sharks have yet not announced their squad, but will be bringing out the best to put up a good show for the Twickenham viewers and raise a handsome amount of money.
