Rugby Football Union confirms departure of Martyn Thomas - Rugby News
Rugby Football Union (RFU), which is passing through a transitional phase, has made another surprise decision by removing the acting chief executive from his position come December. Martyn Thomas, who took charge of Rugby Football Union’s chief executive
seat in June, will be removed from the scene completely as his tenure will be over on December 16.
The 67-year-old chairman has been serving the RFU for the last six years in various roles. RFU confirmed on November 3, that the acting chairman will not be given any role after his deal concludes this year.
Martyn Thomas was given extra responsibilities of handling RFU’s matters as the chief executive, when John Steel resigned from the post a couple of months before the start of Rugby World Cup 2011. Thomas was also appointed the chairman of Rugby World Cup
2015 and will be deprived from that position as well.
The outgoing chief executive of RFU talked the reporters on November 2, and said that he feels immense pleasure for serving the union since last six months. He especially quoted his tenure as the chief executive and said that, “It has been an honour to be
part of the Union, most particularly for the past six months as acting chief executive where I have been lucky enough to get to know better the RFU staff who work tirelessly for the good of the game.”
He shifted his conversation towards the future of RFU and hoped that it will get stable in the coming months. He added that, “Stephen Brown for one has been a phenomenal addition to the executive team and, having got to know him very well over the last few
months, I have total faith that he will provide the stability and leadership needed at this important time.”
Rugby Football Union is having a tough time since almost last one year as the structural and team performances have discovered many loop holes in the body. Repeated changes in the management have left devastating affects on the team, which ultimately was
ruled out from the very first knock out stage of the World Cup, played in New Zealand during last month.
