Rugby Football Union rejects suggestions for reform – Rugby News
Rugby Football Union, which is passing through a rough patch, has rejected the numerous suggestions for its revival. There have been a number of ideas from various circles to uplift the corporate culture of union but the governing body has rejected all those
recommendations. The RFU Council, which has been established to review the loop holes and the ongoing crises in the union, decided on December 2 that a non-controversial part will go the Council but other suggestions will not be discussed.
Rugby Football Union has slumped into a greater state of helplessness way before the start of Rugby World Cup as a number of controversies overwhelmed the governing body. The ongoing row among the big guns of RFU created an uncertain situation for the future
of rugby that ultimately cost them a great loss during global show.
England packed its luggage early in the RWC as the team could not concentrate fully on their sport as the lack of interest from management an unpleasant situation. Senior players like Mike Tindall were found guilty of having indulged in prohibited activities.
The union fined him with a heavy amount but could not save his team from an early exit as they were crushed by France in the quarter-final of the global showpiece.
A member of council told the media about the future agenda of its conference and said that, “Getting council and the game to accept Slaughter and May is going to be a mammoth task and I am certain around 80 per cent won't be accepted by council," said the
Council member. "There won't even be a vote to accept tomorrow; it will merely be presented and then a task group set up to look into it.”
He further said that, “The non-controversial parts will go before the next council meeting in February so they can go before the game at the annual general meeting next July. The more controversial recommendations are going to require a lot of work to be
done to get the clubs on board and I can't see them doing so until the AGM in 2013.”
Currently, the RFU is facing large problems regarding its governing capabilities.
