  1. If your awarded a free kick in kicking range, why would you tap then kick?

You get the option of having a scrum aswell, and with the ELVs you get a 10 meter gap between you and the opposition backline (5 meters each side of the scrum).

So why not take the scrum, then go for your dropped goal.

  2. LAW 28. FREE KICK

A free kick is a kick awarded for a fair-catch or to the non-offending team as stated in the Laws. A goal may not be scored from a free kick.

The team awarded a free kick may not score a dropped goal until after the ball next becomes dead or the ball has been played or touched by an opposing player. This restriction applies similarly following a scrummage taken in lieu of a free kick.

You used to be able to but they changed the law.

  3. Without all the technical listings the answer is YES. Once you've tapped a free kick to play on then it becomes general play again.  You can pass, run, kick or just stand there and get tackled.
