  1. no only from the hands

  2. Chariotmender is correct that it is not a knock-on as the ball did not come into contact with the hands or the arms.

However Conor L is also correct in saying that if it did happen in a game the majority of referees would not pick it up (with the exception at Domestic & Intnl level) and it would be deemed to be a knock-on by virtue not of the rule but the referee unable to correctly see the action.

  3. No, or any other part of your body. Only arms and hands constitute a knock on.

    LAW 17. KNOCK-ON OR THROW-FORWARD

A knock-on occurs when the ball travels forward towards the direction of the opponents' dead-ball line after:-

a player loses possession of it, or

a player propels or strikes it with his hand or arm, or

it strikes a player's hand or arm and touches the ground or another player before it is recovered by the player.

A throw-forward occurs when a player carrying the ball throws or passes it in the direction of his opponents' dead-ball line. A throw-in from touch is not a throw-forward. If the ball is not thrown or passed forward but it bounces forward after hitting a player or the ground, it is not a throw-forward.

Sorry TAXI, you don't know what you're talking about. Read the rules. I played and ref'd the game for nigh on 30 years!

  4. No. It is only classified as a knock on if it comes off your hands or lower arm. ie. if it comes off your chest it isn't a knock on

  5. Chariotman is totally wrong!!!!

    Yes, it's a knock on....

Lensta, just because you're a kiwi doesn't make you right!! Suggest you hold back on the abuse & get your facts right before posting pal ;-)

"A knock-on occurs when the ball travels forward towards the direction of the opponents' dead-ball line after a player loses possession of it"

A ball hitting you on the chest only would be classed as losing possession, now wouldn't it? Of course it's a knock on!!!  I've seen some pretty lame Q's & A's in here, but this one takes the cake!!!

  6. my giant DD b***s always get in the way when im trying to catch a ball and i've always been called as a knock on... so this is interesting to me.  ive played under the direction that if the ball propells forwad from anywhere on your body at the knees or above, that that would be considered a knock on- but i dont know now!  what if the player head butts the ball?  would that be a knock?  ive never seen anyone try that!

    these are iRB rules:

    DEFINITION KNOCK ON

A knock on occurs when a player loses possession of the ball and it goes forward, or when a player hits the ball forward with the hand or arm, or when the ball hits the hand or arm and goes forward, and the ball touches the ground or another player before the original player can catch it.

‘Forward’ means towards the opposing team’s dead ball line.

    EXCEPTION

Charge down. If a player charges down the ball as an opponent kicks it, or immediately after the kick, it is not a knock on even though the ball may travel forward.

I guess it would leave some room for ref interpretation when it comes to "possession" - what part of the body can have possession and how long it needs to be held before considered possession...

  7. It's not TECHNICALLY a knock on...

but it all depends on the ref

  8. yes. dont be finicky with all the rules. if it happened in a match the ref would say its a knock on

    thats all that matters

  9. Ya thats what it is if you catch it and drop it I I think thats a knock on too

  10. Can't you inbreeds read!!! THE QUESTIONS STATES IF IT COMES OF YOUR CHEST AND NOT YOUR ARMS.  The answer is NO.  You can't knock on a ball in Rugby if it hits your chest ONLY and propells forward.  It must make contact with the hand or lower arm to constitute a knock on NOT your torso.  If you think that it is a knock on then you don't know rugby.  And do you know how I no because I a NZ and its our national sport plus i've actually played the sport for 25 yrs.  Maybe some of your fruit heads should also play it then you might have a clue!!!!

  11. LAW 17. KNOCK-ON OR THROW-FORWARD

A knock-on occurs when the ball travels forward towards the direction of the opponents' dead-ball line afte a player propels or strikes it with his hand or arm,

  12. Yes.

That is a knock on if you loose control.

It's not just from your hand or arm at all.

Using your knee - which used to be used quite a bit for nice chips is now a knock on. So is using your heal.
