Rugby League: Castleford Tigers' hooker Daryl Clark seals a five-year deal with club
Castleford Tigers hooker, Daryl Clark, has inked a five-year deal on Thursday, October 20, which will bind the prop to the Tigers until 2017.
Clark made his first team debut in February against Huddersfield Giants and so far has a total of 21 appearances to his credit.
While talking to BBC Radio, the 18-year-old Clark said, "It's my home-town club and all I've ever wanted to do. I've played there now for the last three years in the academy so to get an opportunity to play first-team for the next five years is great."
Clark further added that he is happy to be part of the team because he was not at all expecting to be included in more than two games this year. However, things changed for him with Ryan Hudson’s injury that urged the coach, Terry Matterson, to revise his
selection and give Clark a chance to play for Tigers.
While talking about his coach, Clark added, “He kept me in the side throughout then and every game I've played in I've just wanted to do well and try to stay in the side. It's good to have good players around you and Rangi's a great player. For him to commit
himself to the club for the next few years, like Richard Owen and a few of the other youngsters, means it's a good place to be at the minute for young players.”
It was also confirmed by the prop that his decision to stick around with the club for so long had been influenced by Rangi Chase’s decision to renew his existing contract with Tigers.
When the player was asked about his decision to prolong his stay at the franchise for five more years, he said that he does not wish to play anywhere else because he has a childhood association with the club. He has grown up being a fan and just to make
it to their Under-18 team was a huge achievement for him. He also went on and said that he is very pleased about his extension because as much as he is aware of the opportunities, Castleford has the perfect set of opportunities.
