Rugby League: Harlequins RL acquire Mike Brunette on loan
Hull FC forward Mike Burnett revealed his intentions to the media that he is looking forward to be in action for regular first-team action rugby this season.
He said, “Obviously I'd have to have a look at it if I wasn't playing for Hull FC.” He went aloud about it a week ago when he told the media that he wants his goals to be playing in Super League. After getting a break from Hull FC, he was determined to take this challenge and he is now recruited by Harlequins on a season-long loan for 2011 campaign.
"It'll be tough for anyone even if you're a first team regular or just a fringe player because there's no getting away from it, we've got a strong forward pack," he said.
Mike Burnett looks determined to impress everyone with this step and playing as a regular. Quins coach, Rob Powell seems happy with the decision. “I've seen Mike seen play frequently over the last few years and he's always impressed me,” he said. He believes Mike Brunette is hungry for this opportunity due to his limited first team action. Mike Brunette is expected to excel in Harlequins, he has the mentality and the tools to both improve and polish his game.
Mike Brunette got what he asked. The 22-year-old Hull FC forward is excited and is looking forward to this move. “It will be a good test for me playing regularly at Super League level and a good opportunity for me to develop my game.” says Brunette. He further adds to it, “Playing at a higher intensity with Quins will help me improve my game and hopefully then I can come back to Hull and stake a claim for a regular place in the side.”
Harlequins have renewed two deals with prop forwards Joe Marler and James Johnston. Joe Marler got an extension until summer 2014. He made a huge impact for Londoners since his debut opposing Leicester last season. 20-year-old loose head forward has the right potential to get such deal.
James Johnston a 24-year-old Samoa international acquired his new deal until 2013. He is also a regular in Aviva Premiership club’s match day squads.
Harlequins are making all these changes after a long while. The coach says we learnt a lot from the previous season and are ready to prove a few things this time. The new player will blend in with the old ones to give a new face to Harlequins.
Once pleased the board will renew his contract and sign Brunette for a longer period. This season is a first-class challenge for him where he can get a level up and demonstrate his skillfulness. Brunette fans have been posting and commenting about this development. Like Rob Powell, they also believe in him and want him to excel.
Mike Brunette has made 36 appearances since his debut in 2008.
