Rugby League World Cup 2013 will be staged in four countries
The Rugby League World Cup 2013 organisers announced on Monday, November 28, that the World Cup will be played in four different countries including England, Wales, Ireland and France.
Previously, the rumour was that the entire World Cup campaign would be co-hosted by Wales and England, but the latest news has confirmed that a total of four countries will share the World Cup load.
There are a total of eighteen venues which have been selected for the campaign which include Limerick in Ireland, Avignon and Perpignan in France, and Neath and Wrexham in Wales. However, the announcement regarding the semi-final and final venue is yet to
be made. Hopefully that will be confirmed during the initial half of 2012.
The quarter final venues for the campaign are Headingley, Wrexham, Warrington and Wigan, which were finalised after a very stiff competition amongst a host of options available.
While talking about the mega rugby league event, which is scheduled to place during the tail end of 2013, Nigel Woods, the director of tournament said that they were excited that the tournament will visit established rugby league venues along with some new
locations.
Rugby League International Federation did not approve of the pitch for the campaign, which eliminated Halton Stadium in Widnes as an option. Meanwhile, new stadiums in England including, stadiums in St. Helens, Salford and Whitehaven, will be used during
the campaign too.
While expressing his thoughts about the World Cup 2011, Woods added, "We experienced massive interest in hosting matches from all across Europe and we have had to make some tough decisions. The new locations give us unique opportunities to grow the game
and to deliver a lasting legacy for our sport. It has been a fantastic and inspiring bidding process and we have been extremely impressed with the quality, detail and diverse nature of the host bids received."
A number of locations have been selected where training camps will be set up, which include, Bolton, Bradford, Manchester, Preston, Widnes and Workington. Multiple training locations have been selected so that there are enough training grounds for all participating
nations to carry out their training sessions.
