Rugby Position?

Hey, I'm trying to start a rugby team at my High School, and I was just wondering, what position would I be best at?

I'm 6'1" and 215 lbs and I'm not a very fast runner.

Plus any tips on getting support for a team so the school can let us start one?

  1. well Mikey I think U may have 2B a Prop. Sorry can't help with tips for school rugby reckon U only got a chance if teacher is into Rugby

  2. Well you should be a foward either prop or 8.Make sure that your backs are fast and that your pack is tall.

If you want to encourage people to play let them know that if the already play a sport that it will benefit them. I'm from Ireland and most of our professionals started playing other sports like Gaelic football or basketball. If you need any advice e-mail me!

  3. at your size your best bet would be at 8 man or second row....On getting support from your high school you have to have enough people who want to play....at least 20 guys who are commited....Then you have to get a hold of USA rugby..visit thier website they have  alink to starting a club...Then you need to find your local club in your area and ask for their help..since most clubs want developed youth to graduate and still stick a round and play they would be more then happy to help you..Lastly you NEED sponsors or some sort of fund raising...your school will probably not help you out so you need to find sponsors and someone who is willing to do the admi work...aka dedicted parents. You can start a school club that has a several area schools.....this is ver common as awell..

  4. I think Prop is a good position to play. You don't need speed, and you have the right build. There's some info in this link.

  5. I think you'd be best at prop

    As for the support,

Get your mates together.tHen they can bring their mates....if its hard to convince them, let them know it means tackling others without detention/suspension etc...alot of schools dont allow people to tackle at lunch unless its in a sport with teacher supervision - which in this case their will be.(dont forget about the girls - they could form a cheer squad,be ball girl/tee chick/water chick etc)

once u have convinced enough players,

you should go talk to the Head of Phys Ed and then teh Principal...

the rest is up 2 u

    Good Luck :-)
