Rugby Report: Brendan Venter to quit Saracens
Brendan Venter, the director of Saracens rugby, will not render his services for the club in present capacity after January 9 and would most probably head back to his home in South Africa, amid the personal and familial reasons.
However, it was learnt that he will continue working for Saracens as technical director, a post which has been newly created. The new job description will allow him to work for the union, while being away from London. However he will be able to make frequent visits when needed. The announcement by the Saracens, effective from 9th January 2011, will lead to certain other shake-ups and make-shift decisions, as it was learnt that Mark McCall, the present coach of the team was to be promoted to resume the role of director of rugby. The void left by McCall will then be filled by the hiring of Andy Farrell, the former England international, in the capacity of team coach.
While shedding light over the context of the decision, Nigel Wray, the Saracens chairman said,
“Brendan, Anneme and their children are returning to South Africa in January for family reasons. As a club very much based on family values, we respect their decision and wish them well. Mark and Andy will take over the day-to-day running of the team, but Brendan will remain an integral part of the club, as technical director, making frequent visits to north London.”
The chairman expressed his beliefs that with Venter, not resuming with his earlier role, the club would not face any detrimental effects. Though this is not the first time that Venter, the outspoken South African, has been a subject of a controversy, but he has impressively transformed the club into title challengers after taking control of the helm.
Continuing with his discourse, Wray further said:
“The direction, stability and continuity of the club are unaffected. We will continue our collective quest to be successful on and off the field, striving to win championships in England and Europe, working hard for our players and staff, their families, our supporters and the broader community.”
He also admired and thanked Venter for his worthy contribution through the past two seasons, and hoped that his involvement would remain there in the affairs of the club, in the months and years to come.
