  1. Rugby was in the Olympics in 1924 and a little known fact is that USA defeated France in the final so the americans are the reigning Olympic champions!

  2. I think 7's should be an olympic sport, due to the shorter games and high intensity. Although I truly love the 15 man game, i don't think it is suited because of the lower strike rate.

  3. h**l yes

  4. NO way, that will kill the game. If the 15 made it to the Olympic, they will change the rules and time to suite the schedule and official timing.

So better leave it to the world cup. Other countres can make up a team if they want to join. May be later if all the countries are keen enough then the world cup of rugby can be added to the Olympic at the end of it.

Wouldn't that be nice for the host country to have two event compine. Good for the game too.

    Go the AB

  5. yes, it should, they have football, and water polo so y not rugby

  6. They should definitely put the 7's in. Olympics is afterall the biggest sporting event in the world and putting 7's and T20 Cricket in will make it much bigger. In the 15 man game there are 3 or 4 teams that are far above the rest, but with 7's there are many more teams and even African teams that can compete. The same with T20 cricket, it makes it possible for teams like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe to compete against teams like Aus, Ind and South Africa. Both of these are massive sports and deserve a place at the games. After all it can only increase the interest in the games

  7. Rugby 7s would make a fantastic Olympic sport.  Lot of weird events which could be given  bum's rush such as synchronised diving .

Even the Yanks enyoy 7s !

  8. No, at least not the 15 man game, definitely 7's. The only issue I have is that it is not a global sport where the game played at the Olympics will only sate a small population but then again there are other sports that are similar in popularity in some parts of the world. Handball at the Olympics is purely a European sport and played in small amounts in South America. The rest of the world have no time for it. Beach Volley ball is great to watch if men are watching the girls play but is it really an Olympic event?

  9. The IRB wants 7s to become an olympic sport

Respond to the IOC’s Virtual Olympic Congress and help get rugby back into the olympic games

    watch the video about it:

  10. I agree that it would be great. The only problem is that it would be  too a similar contest to the Rugby World Cup. That being the case, the IRB would not approve of it. Possibly a sevens competition for the Olympics may work. It was trialled at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

  11. I reckon Rugby 7's should be in the olympics not the 15 man game.

7's is far more entertaining to watch and not as long

  12. I Think It Should (Rugby League)

  13. I'd love to see it, but, if it were 15s, they'd have to shorten the game time -- that's a lot of rugby to play in two weeks.

As others have said, 7s (with 7-minute halves) would likely be an excellent candidate.

  14. No not really.  they shouldn't have team sports at the Olympics.  IMHO

  15. rugby 7's would be better for the Olympics than a full 15's tournament

  16. definately. sevens should but not 15.
