Rugby Update: Bath announces two year contract with Claassens
Michael Claassens has signed a new contract with Bath to stay for another two years. The scrum-half will be staying in the team till 2013 and proving himself as an integral member of the club. Claassens joined Aviva Premiership in 2007 and quickly became
an essential member of the team. The tough and competent scrum-half has earned a reputation and is considered to be the most consistent player in his position. He has captained his side last season and his on-field partnership with Butch James, Bath’s South
African fly half has developed to a great level. This partnership has helped Bath to fire up its dynamic back line.
This springbok scrum has become one of the Premiership’s most reliable and assured performers. Claassens captained Bath in 2009 –10 seasons and as the tournament started, it was a disaster for Bath but ended on a good note after they played till the semi
final. Claassens has capped springboks eight times between 2004 and 2007. He earlier played at Cheetas, which is before 2007. He has earned repute as one of the best players in his position and was a very combative number 9. He moulded himself according to
the Premiership requirements. He has helped Bath in raising their offensive mode and has been actively involved with all the ongoing matters of the team.
Michael Claassens was born in Kroonstad, South Africa on 29th January 1982. The 5ft 10in scrum-half is a rugby union player and plays in Aviva Premiership. His position of choice has always been scrum half. Claassens expresses his gratitude towards
the club and said, “I am very excited about the future of Bath Rugby, and want to be a part of all the developments going on here. Me and my wife love Bath, both the club and the city, and are really looking forward to staying.”
Claassens is really looking upon this journey as a great career move.
Steve Meehan, the head coach for Bath said, "We are extremely happy that Michael has decided to extend his contract with the club for another two years.” Meehan believes that Claassens is a quality player and highly professional hard working asset
for the club. He further commented on his talent, “One of the most honest players you'll come across. He is a great example to all the players."
