Rugby Update: Johnson is the right person for England’s manager ship- Matt Dawson
England’s former back Matt Dawson believes that England’s current manager Martin Johnson is the best available person for the position he is holding at the moment.
Dawson supported his former captain and said he is the perfect person, who can help England to win the next year’s world cup, as he knows how to win the world cups. He knows that you need to be versatile and you need to come up with appropriate planning
if you want to win the world cup.
Dawson was the main member of the England’s squad, who won the world cup for England in 2003. Every rugby fan still remembers his famous pass to Jonny Wilkinson for that famous world cup drop goal.
England has so far played very well in the season. They have won 3 matches out of last 4 matches they played. They first beat Australia at Sydney last month but lost against All Blacks in their opening match of this autumn season. But after that defeat they
won 2 consecutive matches against Australia and Samoa.
England’s most fresh victory came against Samoa last Saturday with the score of 26-13. Some people believe that England should have beat Samoa with much better margin. But Dawson said he thinks it was really a positive performance from England. Although,
Samoa kept England under pressure but England was in command all the time in the game.
Dawson strongly admired England’s performance against Samoa and said, although Samoa was few points ahead than England once but England always stayed cool and never took pressure. Toby Flood and Shontayne Hape made few very good moves.
He also appraised Ben Young’s performance, who is still new in international rugby but played very well.
Dawson said that the match against Samoa will improve player’s performance and will make them stronger, as Samoa put them under pressure but they still won with a clear margin.
Furthermore, Dawson said he is very happy that England has many players for the position of centre and all the players are class players. Centre position has been England’s dilemma in the past.
He said Matt Banahan was effectual in his first appearance in midfield. Defensively he was a little suspect early on and he didn't show sufficient to suggest but he played healthier than he was expecting.
Dawson said he is very glad with the overall performance of England. They developed them as a far recovered team than they were in the last year.
"England has a lot more potency in depth now than they had a year or two ago. There is good cover throughout the pack and at half back, and the situation in midfield is far better than it was."
Johnson finished with the words that now England’s main concern should be to thrash Springboks in their last match of this autumn season, so they could make happy end of their season.
He added, although Springboks will be anxious to win against England after their lost against Scotland but he is expecting England’s win.
Undoubtedly, England is performing very well throughout the year. All the players know their responsibilities. They have made a good mixture and Johnson is performing his duties very professionally. If England keeps their combination then world cup will
not be a difficult task for them.
