Rugby Update: Morrison Injured- Major Blow for Scotland
Glasgow Warrior will be playing the rest of the Heineken Cup without their backbone Graeme Morrison. He will be missing both the final rounds of the league after suffering through knee ligament damage in an 1872 Cup derby match win over their rivals Edinburgh.
He also sat out at a home game at Murray field, on a Magners League clash against Munster at the weekend which the Warriors narrowly lost.
The coach Sean Lineen and Morrison both confessed that the knee problem would keep him off the field for the coming two months. Though Morrison satisfactorily said,
“I like to think of myself as a quick healer. I've done this on the other knee before and I was back before they predicted.”
Graeme Morrison, a Scottish Rugby union player also known as G-Dog and The Schythe plays at centre for Glasgow Warriors. He started rugby from his school Dollar Academy, where he played as a captain. He then went on to professional rugby and represented
Scotland in Under 21 matches. He made his international debut against Australia in 2004, where he played all the four matches at a key position. He scored his first try against Japan the very same year at McDiarmid. Morrison went in to league rugby soon after
that and came back to his national team in 2008 in a tie match against England in Calcutta Cup. He applied for Japanese citizenship to follow his dream of playing for his boyhood hero, but sadly, his application got rejected.
Morrison looks positive about his injury and believes he will recover quickly. Talking to media he said,
“I'm hoping it will be around six to eight weeks, which would give me a chance to play in some of the Six Nations.” Talking about his performance he added, “I've been playing well this season, so to have this is a bit of a setback, but I'll just do my best
to get back on the pitch.”
Warriors will be ending their Pool 6 last clash against London Wasps this weekend and then will be heading for Magners League clash against their rivals Newport Gwent Dragons. Apart from all these key matches, Morrison will be missing Six Nations opening
match against defending champions France at Stade de France on 5th February.
