Rugby Update: Sonny Williams can’t play rugby but can Box
Sonny Bill Williams, the All Black superstar and a successful boxer has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot and will be missing the initial matches of the upcoming Super Rugby season. Although he will be boxing professionally after the doctors
allowed him. Williams, who believes he will be in shape for his professional boxing match against Scott Lewis neat Saturday night.
He will be duelling with the Australian star on the Gold Coast and has been looking forward to this match since December. The All Black hero surrendered to a leg injury in the final game of All Blacks northern hemisphere trip last year. Williams is struggling
to sprint and qualms he won’t be in time for the opening clash of Crusaders on 19th February against Blues.
All time ladies favourite sports star said, “There's still a bit of a problem there and it hurts mainly when I run.”
Williams added, “I haven't been able to run since the tour. I aggravated it in the last game but it doesn't affect my boxing at all.”
The question that arises is that why is this news revealed at this moment around and why was it was kept hidden from die hard Sonny Bill Williams’ fans. Williams admitted that he can still bounce around but while running he feels immense stress on his foot.
Williams was under constant supervision of Deb Robinson, the All Blacks’ doctor and wishes to regain full rugby form and join the training when he comes back to Christchurch. He informed the press that he was injured quite early in the tour but kept on playing
because he was looking forward to make his debut the dream team All Blacks.
That little injury flared up and has caused problems not to him only but to everyone affiliated with his name. Williams accepted that he should have been a bit more careful. He said,
“I really started to feel it 10 minutes in. After the game it was pretty sore. I got a scan straight away and was told I was lucky I came off when I did otherwise I'd have ended up with a full stress fracture.”
