Rugby World Cup 2011 Weekly recaps: Week one - Part 2
Four matches were played on September 10 on various venues and the all the games proved crowd amusing in the end. Romania faced a defeat at the hands of Scotland after a tough contest and among the other matches of the day the second one was played between
two arch rivals Fiji and Namibia.
The sides displayed an excellent performance in Rotorua but in the end Fiji grabbed the victory in comfortable way. The pacific nation cast a spell over Namibia and dominated them since the early minutes of the match. Vereniki Goneva was the man who played
exceptionally well to grab the first hat-trick of the tournament just within 35 minutes.
He opened the account for Fiji in the fifth minute of the match and continued the good work in the second half as well. Collectively, Fiji scored six tries in the match and their rivals relied on just two.
Seremaia Baikeinuku did a wonderful job of scoring five conversions and three penalty goals in the match to register a testing but good victory in the end. Fly-half Theuns Kotze helped Namibia with three drop goals.
The third match of the day was played between France and Asian champion Japan which remained one sided. France managed to thump Japan, the only Asian side competing in the world showpiece, by 47-21. Morgan Parra, Vincent Clerc, Pape, Pierre and Trinh-Duc
scored one each tries for their team. Dimitri Yachvili displayed a great use of his foot in the match a he kicked four conversions and three penalty goals. He was the leading scorer of the match with 19 points.
Meanwhile, Japan fell short of a rampant French side as they scored 21 points in the allotted time. James Alridge was the sole contributor for his team with two tries, one conversion and three penalty goals.
The fourth and last match of September 10 was held between two equally good sides of England and Argentina. It was a low scoring game unlike the first three fixtures of the day as the sides had got real depth in the defending lines. England outclassed the
Pumas by a narrow margin of 13-9 after a tough battle.
Ben Young was the only man to cross the white wash line for England as he managed to tear apart the solid defence of Argentina in the 66th minute after a number of desperate efforts. English fly-half Jonny Wilkinson elevated his team with eight
points. The Pumas were unable to cross the try lines of England but managed to land with three penalty goals in through their posts. The English side was slammed by their manager Martin Johnson for committing too many penalties in the match.
