  1. one is the republic anthem and one is the rugby national anthem.

  2. they are not national anthems...1(amhrán na bhfiann) is the national anthem and they only sing it when they are playing at home n Ireland i don't know why and the other 1(Ireland's call) is for ireland as a whole, the republic and the north of ireland. its their rugby anthem and they sing it at all of their matches home and abroad

  3. they have two anthems only if the game is being played in the Republic of Ireland but if the game is elsewhere they only play Ireland's call because the Irish Rugby team represents the whole island of Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) while "Amhrán na bhFiann" - Ireland’s National Anthem only represents the Republic.

  4. because ones the actual national anthem for the republic while irelands call is for the whole island combined and is always played while the 1st is only played at home matches

  5. As the others said, the Irish rugby team is comprised of players from The Irish Republic and from Northern Ireland. The Irish anthem is played when the team play in the Irish Republic (A Soldiers Song) and Irelands call is always sung. Having lived in Ireland for a long time i can tell you that the majority of Irish Rugby fans know the words to Irelands call better than thier own national anthem!!!!

  6. as said before its got to do with the nordies in the team.

if it was up to me I would get rid of irelands call,it is a terrible song

oh and to the person who said more people knew the words to irelands call than amhrán na bhfiann I would dispute that.I dont have a clue what the words to irelands call are but I do know all the words to  our national anthem.I believe this is the case with a majority of people in the republic

  7. Their 'main' anthem is Ireland's Call, which was written especially to cope with the fact that Irish players come from both Northern Ireland and Eire and so have different anthems.  When they play at home, they also do Amhrán na bhFiann (the anthem for Eire).

South Africa also technically have 2, though they've now amalgamated them into 1 anthem with 2 parts.

  8. New Zealand actually also has 2 anthems played.

We have the English version and the Maori (natives) version.

  9. Ireland has two national anthems as one of them is for the republic of ireland and the other is the combined anthem known as "Irelands Call". Hope this helps.
