Rugby help!?

i like rugby and i really want to play it, buti have only just started in the past 2 weeks

How do i drop kick? when ever i try it it goes along the ground

how to i make my kick make the ball go higher and farther?

What position should i play?

age:14 (gilr)

weight: 90lbs almost 100

i can run fast, kick kind of far but i dont want ot be in the position of a scurm or one that gets tackled alot(i no rugby is a tackle sport, buti want to be in the position were i dont get tackled that often)

What are the basic rules? like scrum rules, when you get tackled rukes

  1. the full back doesn't get tackled often and is usually the one that gets the ball and kicks it foward to save from a try. and as for the kicking if when u kick u point your toe down more while kicking it should make it go farther and higher and make sure to follow through.

Ok no matter what position you play in your going to get tackled, and to be honest theres really no position in the backs that gets tackled less than another, so your out of luck for that.... on to the kicking.  you have to understand the drop kick is used in a few different ways, mainly for kick offs, restarts, 22m dropouts, and field goals, the basics, assuming you are right handed and footed is as follows.  with both hands on the ball, and your right hand being near the middle to base of the ball and the left hand nearere the top, drop the ball nose first onto the ground.  you want to have the ball at ever such a small angle towards your left leg.  the reason for this is so that it will bounce inward rather than out wards, in which you will miss  and be laughed at.  timing is everything with the kicking foot, but make sure of the following:

    1) your left foot is your plant foot, make sure you place it either slightly behing and outside of the ball, or equal with the ball

    2) you should use your whole body to kick, arms out to balance you, core stabalized and leaning back ever so slightly to get lift on the ball.  understand alot of more experienced kickers start bending over the ball and then rearing back, this gives them more power behind the kick.

    3) Kicking foot, you want to point your toe out, this makes all the other toes point out and bind together.  hold your hand out and push all your fingers together, feel how strong that is? thats how your toes should be.

    4) timing timing timing, the drop kick is hard, its hard to r****d your leg to let the ball bounce up and to get the foot near the base.

    5) so you have dropped the ball, and its bouncing back up, let the ball bounce up and let loose with your kick, make sure to follow through with your foot, so that the ball gets air.

    6) stand back and marvel at your kick, congrats your a flyhalf!

  3. The only advice i can really give you to help with your kicking skills is to make sure your toe is pointing down, and you kick with power. That way the ball goes higher and further and will follow through. Try your best to keep your eye on the position of your foot and the target (even if you don't have much time to). In your spare time you could always go out to a field that holds rugby posts and practice your kick. You could play around a bit and try out different ways and positions you could make a drop goal successful.

    I'm afraid there's no real way of not getting tackled, but improving on all the key skills of rugby could help. Speed, strength, power etc. are all important skills in the game. It might take a while to grasp some of them (some more than others), but trust me, as you come to play the game more and more your gaming and confidence will improve.
