  1. tape round ears, no way to prevent braking a nose, head guard for concussiosn which will soften the blow although i find them uncomfortable and a gumshied will prevent you gettin your teeth knocked out

  2. Injuries happen in every sport, that's a fact. Rugby, you'd be surprised, has less injuries than you'd think. reason for that is that guys use great technique in tackling and ballcarrying.

to prevent most injuries, a fit body is the best protection, as well as an open mind/closed mouth when coaches/vets are giving instructions.

to prevent torn ears, tape tham back or wear a scrum cap.

concussions can't be prevented by scrumcaps... this is a common mistake by rookies. scrumcaps prevent lacerations from oppenents elbows and such. to prevent concussions, a solid mouthpiece is the best route.

teeth stay in when the mouthpiece does.

breaking your nose WILL happen. just deal with it and don't be a princess. halfassing it on the pitch will def. get you hurt.

  3. to stop gettin ripped ear you can wear a scrum cap. to stop knocking out your teeth gt a gum shield.

  4. You're always going to get injuries in rugby, whether it be minor tweaks or twinges, or something as serious as a broken bone or torn tendon.

For ripped or cauliflower ears, concussion, an knocking your teeth out there are a couple of really simple solutions:

To prevent a ripped ear you can wrap tape (electrical) around your head, this keeps your ears protected and pressed back against your head - which is useful in preventing cauliflower ears if you play in the tight five. This can be fairly annoying to get off however, but it is a low budget simple fix. (adding vasaline to the tops and back of your ears will help with any scrum friction).

The way to go with preventing a concussion or ear injury is by wearing a scrum cap. I highly recommend any of the models made by Canterbury of New Zealand. A scrum cap completely covers your ears while leaving a hole for you to hear through... They also provide impact protection for your head, and while you may occasionally suffer an extremely mild concussion, since i started wearing one a number of years ago, i've never been knocked out (used to happen with alarming frequency!).

Protect your teeth by wearing a high quality mouth guard (shock dr is a pretty good brand), most dentists will even make you a custom gum gaurd... You should actually be wearing one anyway (make sure it only covers your upper teeth though)...

As for your nose... not much can be done there to protect it, apart from practicing how to tackle and hit. Make sure your head is always on the right side of the tackle, and remember to lead with your shoulder and not your head! But if the worst that happens in a game is a broken nose, i'd say you're doing well!

  5. Train hard, be fit, listen to coach, always know good technique is good for at least one reason - prevents injuries, and never walk on less than 100%.

I've had way more injuries playing basketball and snowboarding.

  6. The only real protection is a scrum cap and mouth gard.
