My husband is a rugby league fan and its his 30th birthday coming up. He has never been to a 'big' game before and i would like to treat him. We dont follow a particulour team so am not fussy, i have no idea about fixture lists etc but wondered if there were any special games coming up around the 21st July? Or do any other of you fans have any ideas about how i could treat him?

  1. the weekend 26th & 27th sees the semi-finals of the challenge cup.  Saturday at Huddersfield.  I'd suggest staying in the George Hotel (by the rail station) as it is the historic birthplace of the game and has a heritage centre within it - worth visiting at least once.

    for fixtures the weekend before:

will tell you what fixtures are happening.

good luck & enjoy yourselves - the crowds are entirely different to football fans - far more family orientated.

  2. if you can get to the other cup semi final (rhinos v saints) at galpharm huddersfield on the saturday 12.30 k.off it a 'big game'

look for me in the crowd

    long live the rhinos

  3. Come watch the Challenge Cup semi final between Leeds & Saints, or Wigan v Saints. Both games should be very good, and hopefully Saints turning out winners in both!! :o)

  4. Just like Trinity says,The Challenge Cup semis are coming up(26th and27th of july)both will be great games, but if you want to really see what Rugby League is about, put his birthday on hold and  get tickets to the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley....One of the greatest sporting events in the world when supporters of just about every rugby league team go and watch, and talk, and drink with each other..p.s.....you don't say where you live but if your in Yorkshire, get him up to Hedingley to watch the Leeds Rhinos.....He wont be disappointed........

  5. its not that long b4 the super league ends & the play offs start so u cud take him 2 wembley 4 the challenge cup final or the play offs final which may b at old trafford,im not sure bout that 1.

  6. hi if you want fixtures then go to the rugby football league (rfl)website you will be able to see all the super league fixtures but my suggestion is to take him to wembley for the challenge cup final (this played the saturday of the august bank holiday weekend i think it's the 30th). this is the best day out in rugby league by far, fans off all clubs mingling & drinking without any trouble. tickets are available through the rfl website & start about £25. if you decide to go i'll see you there especially if my beloved  wakefield win there semi Vs Hull  . the other semi is st helens Vs Leeds.

  7. You lucky, lucky pair. The nearest Friday is the 18th july. Wigan are at home to St. Helens. Always a good turn out. A lot of tension. Should be a good game, if the Saints don't wipe the floor with us. Wigan played well tonight (we beat the harlequins 38-20) You'll be most welcome at the JJB Stadium. Kick off - 7.30pm
