Rugby players annual salary??

Question

Just read that the RFU and Clubs have negciated a deal over the club v country row. They said amonst other things that the clubs will be compensated with an average year's salary for an elite player if a member of their squad is selected. How much is the average salary of an elite player??

Each English Premiership club has a salary cap of £2,118,617.00

That can rise if you meet different criteria to about £2.5m

That is for a squad of 40 players

So the "average" salary would be £62,500

Obviously some make quite a bit more and others quite a bit less.

Wages would be a lot higher than 175k for the elite players. That compares to what the super 14 guys get. If someone like Giteau can get 1 million aussie (350k UK) then guys like Wilkinson would likely be getting better. The number of players going to the UK & France for big bucks instead of staying in the Super 14 suggests the money is much larger

Average players salary in the top division is about £60 - £70k, however, someone like Johnny Wilkinson (highest paid player) would be earning about £175 - £200k per season.

I think the average 'elite' players salary would be about £100 - £125K per season.

You really can't say what an average wage for elite players is or you would have chaos if the info was known to the public. Top players telling their team-mates how much they get isn't the best idea coz people are aways wanting more. If they see that the best players are getting x then they think hang on a minute I'm worth a little less than him so I want Y. This creates issues at player and club level (It is the same in industry) No -one is going to divulge players individual contracts so you will never know what the average earnings are.

In English RL there are salary caps for teams not sure about RU

The link says that English clubs get £30,000 for their players who represent their country and that is 1/5 or 1/6 their salary so maybe that is about £150,000 to £180,000 for a top player but who knows?

whatever they get, they earn the money, just watch prem footballers rollin round when they havent been touched, put one in the back line with Chabal (u)or a Morley(L) running at them youll smell the fear from lands end to john o groats.
