Rugby update, foot fracture rules out Charlie Hodgson for 3 months
Sharks and England’s fly half, Charlie Hodgson, has been ruled out from rugby for three months due to a foot fracture and now his chances to play in the upcoming Six Nations tournament are very slim.
Hodgson had recently made his comeback in the English national team after a long time, when he was called back to England’s team for the recently ended autumn internationals. But his return didn’t prove good for him and he got the injury on one of his feet,
when he was playing his 3rd international match of the season against Springboks.
Earlier there was news that, his injury is not a serious one and he will be back in the team soon, as an official from his club Sharks revealed to media. But now, after he had a detailed check-up with a specialist last night, it has confirmed that his injury
is a serious one and he has a small fracture on the foot and he won’t be able to play for three months.
Hodgson, who started his professional rugby career in 2000 for Sale Sharks, has played 84 league games until now and he has scored 1125 points for the Sharks, which can show his value for the club.
On the other hand, his international record for England is good. He has played 31 matches for his country since he made his debut in 2001. He has also scored 259 points at this level.
His injury is a great blow to England, as the Six Nations is only 2 months away, which is starting from 4th of February, 2011 with the opening match between England and Wales at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff and he won’t be able to play in the tournament.
On the other hand, his coach at Sharks, Mike Brewer, also showed his disappointment and said, his injury is very disappointing for him, especially at this time of the year, when premiership has entered in its final rounds.
Furthermore, Brewer said, Hodgson’s injury has created more pressure on the Sharks, as their 12 players including six main players Eifion Roberts, Neil Briggs, David Seymour, Tom Brady, Aston Croall and skipper James Gaskell are also out from the team due
to injuries.
Undoubtedly, Hodgson’s injury is a huge blow for Sharks and England, as he was one the most experienced players in the squad and experience has no substitute.
