Rugby update: Stevie Scott joins Sharks as lineout coach
The Sale Sharks have hired former famous Scottish forward Stevie Scott as the lineout coach for the club.
Stevie Scott, who represented Scotland in 11 international test matches, had an 18-year rugby career as a player. After retiring, he joined the field of coaching. He also worked as line-out coach of the national team of Scotland
last year.
The story goes that the current head coach of the Sharks, Mike Brewer, who had also coached the Scottish national team in the past, was really impressed with Scott’s abilities, when both the coaches were in the same national team’s
coaching staff last year. So, now when the Sharks had a need for a lineout coach, Brewer, after consulting with the club’s owner, Brian Kennedy, straight away contacted Scott and offered the position to him, which he gladly accepted.
Brewer, who was talking to the media last night, also confirmed the news and expressed his delight. He said, he is pleased to announce that Stevie Scott has agreed to work as lineout coach for the Sharks and he will join the team
on the 1st of January, 2011.
He said, Scott has astonishing acquaintance with rugby. He also has massive experience of working as a lineout coach for the Scottish national team, which is why the Sharks have taken his services. Brewer said, he has working experience
with Scott and he knows that Scott has the same beliefs that he has. That is why he is the most suitable person for the job.
Coaching at the Sharks will be a trouble-free task for Scott in the way that he already has working experience with most of the Sharks’ coaching staff. As along with the head coach, Mike Brewer, Scott has also worked with defensive
coach, Graham Steadman while he was working with the Scottish national side, where Steadman was also part of the coaching crew.
Scott, who was very pleased with the new deal, also spoke to the media and expressed his views on the deal. He said, it is a big occasion for him and he is anxiously waiting for the 1st of January, when he will start
working with the players.
Scott also talked about Mike Brewer and said, "I know Mike well and I really enjoyed working with him when we were together with Scotland and I was delighted when he made the call asking me to come and work with him at Sale. It
will be great to recommence the exceptional working affiliation we had up at Scotland and working together I'm sure we will be able to get the best out of the boys at Sale."
