  1. the most of american football than rugby.....

    i think that good...

  2. 5th grade spelling aside, ''Meeegan'' makes a good point.

Are you still in denial over the old ''predatory dykes in womens rugby'' issue, Megan?

  3. and would you also make the ruggers play american football?

This is an age-old topic that will never be settled because it is comparing two very different sports... its like comparing badmitten with volleyball or tennis... they both have nets... and balls!

The rules are different, the field is different, the ball is different, the trianing is different, the amount of coaching access during the game is different, the amount of time the ball is in actual play is different, the ref-ing is different, the speed is different, the impact of tackles is different.....

I timed an american football game last fall to measure how long the ball is in actual play.  and in one game... 60 minutes... the ball was in play for 6 minutes and 32 seconds.  That means that the am football players are trained for quick bursts of speed, playing only either offense or defense, and having the ability to stop, huddle, tlak about the play, and get imput from the coach and also the "men upstairs" that do minute by minute annalysis of video tapes of the other team.  ruggers have to do more thinking on their feet and communication on the field during a play. Footballers hit way harder (hence the need for protection) because they have energy to do that because the plays are soo short.  they hit harder because they have protection.  they are trained to have the bulky muscles and agility it takes to make the tackles more powerful.  they dont wrap up in tackle like ruggers.  They dont use energy to "float over" their opponent in the tackle to be the one on the top so they can be first out of the tackle to grab the ball.  they dont expend energy pushing in rucks and mauls and scrums.  they get 4 chances to do the right play and move the ball down the field.  Ruggers get one chance and one loss of possession could end their chance to score.    the ref's in rugby have a lot to do with the flow of the game... playing advantage and what penalties he will overlook.   i think the rugby players would have difficulty keeping up with the offensive line of the football players- they are quick and very evasive

the bottom line is that rugby players are trained to endure an 80 minute plus game wihtout substitutions and be able to tackle hard enough to gain psosession but not hard enough to exert too much energy.  footballers are trained for high speed impact where the hits are big and fast and overwith in an instant while an offensive member comes in to take over.

this battle will never be settled... just except it- they are different sports!!!

  4. the rugby players , the American footballers probably do not know the rules of rugby or how to play the game at a professional level. It a bit like asking the world champions at subbitteo  to take on Italy at football

  5. It wouldn't settle anything, because they'd be playing to see who was best in one of the two sports. You'd have to come up with some kind of hybrid game for a real gauge.

I love both sports, gridiron football and rugby union. I don't know why everyone wants to compare them all the time ... or why rugby fans rip on gridiron all the time. They're two different games that require two different sets of skills.

  6. the rugby players all the way they are stronger and know the game alot better

  7. all things being equal, im not sure gridiron players can keep at it for 80 minutes.

  8. i play both sports! american football players are defiantly more athletic but they lack the amount of endurance rugby players have. but to keep it nice and simple, american football players are bigger and faster so if they trained and studied the sport of rugby for about a year, i think they would beat most the international teams and maybe even put up a fight against the all blacks! im serious these american football athletes are insane and ruthless! they fear nothing! the average american football athlete is about the skill of jonah lomu but thats just the average american football athlete, imagine the top ones!!!! there is players in the nfl that weigh close to 400 pounds and run the 100m under 13 seconds!!!!

  9. Totally impractical, the rugby players would win the rugby & the American footballers would win the American football. Different games different rules

  10. Would the American footballers still get to wear their complete all encompassing body Armour to protect their fragile Little frames?

Would they be allowed five minute rest breaks every thirty seconds?

Would the game have to last a brain numbing 3 hours long?

If so they might stand a chance, if not then they wouldn't be standing for more than five minutes.

  11. The hardest part of it is to find a someone able to teach rugby the those dumb footballers....

  12. thats easy, the rugby players would. the american footballers would be lost without thier helmets and padding. i would personally like to see the gloucester rugby team play an american all stars football team!

  13. Well the Rugby players would win but it would settle nothing.

Just as the gridiron players would beat the Rugby players at gridiron.

  14. Impractical.  The games are so different.  Gridiron players would take too long to learn the game.  They would have no idea.
