  1. nothing to discuss, rugby

  2. Eggs are for eating not chasing.  Football is best!!

  3. Rugby in every single aspect. And the players don't take it to their heads like some of the £14 zillion per year waste of money posers.

  4. rugby, how can any1 think football can be better than rugby. it just confuses me!!!!

  5. Weird responses... half the people are comparing rugby to futbol/soccer and the other half are comparing rugby to gridiron/American football.

  6. Rugby for sure.  Some would say that rugby is football without the pads and helmets and all about stomping on heads - this is from people who obviously don't know the game of rugby.

Rugby is all about skill and commitment.  Its about keeping the ball/alive as much as possible while trying to advance to other teams score line.  Football has stop and start plays - how boring is this.  Should I mention that football has up to 3 sub teams - offensive, defensive and special teams.  In rugby you only have 15 players on the field that play all three.

Can I also mention the respect that rugby players show on/off the field towards each other and their officials.  After every match in rugby regardless of the punches thrown - you will always always see the shaking of hands and a display good sportsmanship - a culture that is practiced in school rugby. I don't think I see that in football.

In relation to stomping heads - aaaa.....thats all lies....if your stomping heads in rugby - your obviously not playing the game right.

    Rugby for sure.

  7. Rugby:

Football has lost it`s way over the years and is now about how much money the squad is worth, how much cash you can ring out of the fans and Ponces with miss-spelt Tattoos & daft hairstyles who get paid too much.

Rugby is a flowing, pacy game, played with skill and determination. When was the last time you saw a 0 - 0 draw in Rugby??? Plus I can take my kids to a Rugby match with no fear that there will be a load of half-wits trying to kill each other before, during or after the game, & I can have a civilised beer or 2 whilst I watch the match.

  8. Well in terms of a fight Rugby will win, have you seen the size of some of those players?

  9. To be good at footie you have to be as fit as a fiddle and shaped like a ballet dancer.  There's plenty of room for fat boys in rugby.  It doesn't matter what shape you are.

  10. A simple statement; Rugby a game for thugs played by gentlemen, Football a game for gentlemen played by cheats follwed by thugs

  11. RUGBY!!! definetly

  12. In Australia, if you like rubgy you were born north of the murray, football if you were born south.

  13. Rugby definitely!!!! Not only is rugby action packed, non-stop movement of the ball for 40 minutes a half, there are no substitutions, no huddles to chat about the best plan, no switching between offense and defense, no consulting with the overhead view of cameras that have taken pictures of previous defensive plays of the opposition, no coach to make big decisions for you every second, no time out breaks, no reviewing of a ref's call, and no 4 chances to advance down the field. Rugby requires quick thinking, endurance, agility, speed, strength, and the ability to adapt a plan to the current situation (and get your whole team on board with you). NFL is action packed for 10 seconds every few minutes to run set plays that they've practiced hundreds of times. Plus Ruggers do it all without pads and helmets! Sure, I still watch NFL... DA BEARS!!!!!...but thats really only because theres not a lot of Rugby on TV in the states!!

Of course rugby is a better sport... by defintion it IS more of a sport!

**edited***sorry- i didnt think of "football" as "soccer" but what did our questioner want us to discuss?  "soccer" is full of drama mama's pretending to be hurt and trying to draw penalties with bad acting, head butting, and kicking cleats at people- hardly a real sport!  I may take my boots to someone while playing rugby- but that's becasue they are in the wrong spot- lying on the ground in a ruck and not trying to get out!  Its usually not on purpose and never because they are near me and in my way of getting the ball.  In rugby we have a saying.. "are you hurt? or injured?"  If you're injured then you can come out of the game if absolutely necessary... if hurt.. then you keep playing!  (probably until you're injured).

  14. two completely different sports with almost nothing in common so impossible to compare. I find rugby more interesting to watch as there's more variety and it's higher scoring but football is easier to play as the only skill you realy need is to be able to kick a ball and you can have a game with as little as three players.

  15. Why would I want too? Rugby in Winter, Cricket in Summer, proper sport for proper Englishmen.

  16. I love both sports but rugby is the more physical of the two for me.

  17. Rugby - cleaner more honest sport played by real men. Hard and tough game without the nancying about.

Football is a good game but spoiled by the cheats, divers and fakers. When one of them gets touched they roll around as though they have been poleaxed. Rugby players just get on with it even after a few punches are exchanged in the heat of the moment.

But do you want to know the best thing about rugby, it's the respect that is shown to the other players and most importantly the officials.

I watched Tigers/Llanelli on Saturday, Geordan Murphy was sin binned for a professional foul - did he complain, was the referee surrounded by all the players pushing and arguing with him? No, Geordan put up his hands and jogged off the pitch without a word, this happens week in week out in rugby, look at the shambolic display that footballers are allowed to get away. It actually brings the game into disrepute in my opinion.

So rugby vs football - conclusion both are good games but football needs to catch up with some of the etiquette and technology that is present in rugby. Would love to see footballers get 10 minutes for a yellow card as well but they need to sort out the fakers and divers first.

Personal choice would be for rugby every single time but that is my choice and not a reflection on the game of football.

  18. Rugby. I'm biased. I'm from the Pacific. But Rugby is way better anyways.

  19. Rugby a name of a shirt style I wear.  Football a sport Americans love to follow.

  20. Rugby  - a game for savages played by gentlemen

Football - a game for gentlemen played by savages

Nuff said, can't remember who said this but its pretty accurate. Rugby will always have to rely on the team element as the backs can't do what the forwards do eg scrummage and the forwards can't do what the backs do eg run fast and look pretty (only joking).

There is no sense of every man for himself with rugby, team succeeds and fails together, whereas football can be far more individual and one weak link can be masked, one weak link in rugby is exposed.

I have nothing against football per se, but it can be v. tedious trying to get a result and The hyperbole around the game makes me cringe sometimes

Oh just in case you weren't sure RUGBY any day, here have a star for a good question

  21. RUGBY! thru n thru

  22. It's rugby for me everytime. I play 15 a side from Autumn 'til spring then 7's in the summer. I can't get enough of it.

Football is OK but rugby is a proper man's game. If someone goes down in rugby they're hurt, there is no diving or pretending to be injured for free-kicks. No-one swears at the ref or else they face an early bath. Everybody, no matter what size or shape has a position and job to do in rugby from a 6ft 8, 19st Lock to the 5ft 8, 12 st (when ringing wet) winger. And unlike footballers, Charlotte Church's bloke, Gavin Henson is about the only player in the world with poncy hair and fake tan and he doesn't count 'cause he's Welsh. Yep its rugby everytime.

  23. Rugby = Man's Game

    Football  = Girly mans game

Proof: Men don't wear pads, only woman about 5 days per month.

  24. Football definetly.

  25. Either. Love them both.

If you're talking about playing it, then it's rugby for me.

  26. Football's a game for overpaid girls so rugby every time for me.   73,000 rugby fans can sit together, have a drink and we may only see a handful of policemen, no trouble ever.  Football on the other hand.........

Also I agree with what some others have said about behaviour on the pitch.  Its about respect for yourselves, your teammates and the officials.  Many rugby players still call the ref "Sir" and they know he is the most important one on the pitch, not like footballers who think that because they earn more in a week that I will earn in 3 years have the right to say and do what they want.

Rant over, and if it wasn't clear....RUGBY!!!!!!

  27. Our friends from oversea will be confused, so to be more precise, say Rugby vs Soccer.

Soccer generates huges profits, it's the modern drug of the people, it has it's lot of hooligans, violence, bad spirit and so on.

Rugby is a violent sport, turning into a battlefield, do not generates as much money (from very far) and is not as accessible as football (understanding the rules requires some skills). Outside the pitch, barely any exchange of bad words, but winners and losers go for a few drinks all together..

Both share the same origins (Calcio, Soule...)but have evolved differently.

I'd say foot is for the masses, whereas rugby is for the passionates.
